Steamed Pao Shen Chicken Soup



My wife complained that I have not been boiling any soup for her lately. So, I placed an order for a black chicken yesterday and used half the chicken for this soup tonight.

This again, is a recipe for ladies still under confinement.

The ingredients are simple and the preparation equally straight forward.

Ingredients:

  • 100g pao shen
  • 15 pieces of red dates
  • half black chicken
  • 100ml DOM
  • 100ml liquor
  • 300ml water
  • 1 teaspoon wolfberries

Method:

  • Combine all the ingredients together into a double boiler and double boil for 4 hours. Serve hot.

I reduced the volume of DOM and liquor. She has a low tolerance for liquor. Don't want her to start singing 'I love you. You love me.' the whole night ...hehehe.. (Read my earlier post on Barney and you will know what I meant)

Nice soup, I tried dong kuai with liquor b4 but never try pao shen with liquor. Thanks for sharing.

Morning Vicky. I still have lots of dong kuai as well. Yeap. There is also another recipe using dong kuai. Can also used it to steam chicken. See whether I can do the dong kuai black chicken soup tonight. Still have another half of the black chicken left.

Wow.. definitely a very nutritious soup there... Btw, r u a chef or something like that? I see that u can really cook... way to go Rodney.. seldom hb will cook soup for the wife... haha..

Hi Chee Yee. No problem. Tell me how it turns out. I don't think it should be any problem at all.

No Esmeralda. I am no chef. Just enjoy trying new recipe to see how it turns out. Once I have tried, I will tend to move on to try something else just for the fun. Haha. No choice. If I don't cook soup for wife, then nobody will cook already...

hi, congratulations on your newborn son! i am also on confinement, my baby is 3 months old. I am scouring the internet for herbal recipes to help cure my back pain and ligament aches. Can u tell me which liquor do u use for this Pao Shen chicken recipe? is it brandy? i thought with DOM there is enuff wine...but let me know please? Thanks.. Linda

Hello Linda. I used DOM for this dish. DOM is the common liquor used during a lady's confinement period.
