All because he is my baby

He looks cute right? His diaper was being changed. You really don't want to see and know what the picture isn't showing.
I always wonder how parents could stand changing their babies' diapers. The smell, the colour and the texture....eeeee.... And all of them seemed to be enjoying every minute of it. They kept on telling me then, that you would not mind when my time to change my baby's diapers comes. I could never imagine doing it myself. Well, my wife shared the same sentiment.
But surprisingly, now that Ryan is with us, what we dread doing the most and could never imagine ourselves doing is no longer a challenge to us. Yeah, we still look at the colour of their poo and the texture carefully now, but no longer because it looks awful but more as a matter of concern. Is it too hard, too watery, too greenish in colour etc. The smell....emm....what smell??? In fact there are times when others got to tell us that Ryan has poo poo and both of us don't even smell it!
I just finished changing his diaper because he pooed an hour ago. Did smelled bad? You bet! Was it yucky? Every minute of it! Would I do it again? Of course!! ALL because he is my baby.

How he has grown!

It's a Saturday. Ryan was pretty notorious last night. Her mum has to take him and get him to sleep in the guest room so that I could get some quality sleep. (Have not slept well for the last 2 nights). She knew that if she let me have my way, I will probaby put him on the bed and let him cried himself to sleep which I have done a couple of times in the past....More of that in another post...

Anyway, as usual I would give him a bath if he is not with the babysitter (from Monday to Friday). Was bathing the usual way, with his head lying against my hands and I was washing his tummy. He enjoys his bath nowadays especially if the water temperature is just right. Suddenly he extended his legs and kicked the end of his bath tub and he caught me by surprise! His head hit against the side of the bath tub. He didn't cry (thank God) but he did give me one of those `Hey! Watch it!' look with a frown. And it dawns on me, on how much he has grown! He has outgrown the bath tub itself!

I can still clearly remembers the first time I bathe him and he was so tiny! By the way, he was borned prematurely at only 34 weeks and weighing only 2.2kg! He was so fragile and my hands were trembling to hold him and his fragile head and neck while the confinement lady was giving me instructions on what to do.

He is 3 months old now and looking back, it was like we brought him home yesterday. The last 3 months fatherhood has indeed been a wonderful and challenging experience and I'm glad that I get the chance to relive fatherhood a second time (didn't quite do a good job with my elder children with my ex).

Watch them sleep

I woke up at 3:30am this morning because Ryan was stirring in his sleep. He sleeps with us right in the middle of the bed every night since one month ago. We are putting him to sleep on his tummy because he sleeps better.

Instinctly, my hands stretched out to pat him to quiet him down. Else, if he wakes up, it's going to be another hour at least before we could get him back to sleep. Fortunately, he must be stirring because of his dream. I can see a smile breaking thru as he returned to sleep soundly.

I put my head close to his. I can smell him and believe me, it's the most pleasant smell in the world (I guess every dad will say that of his baby). I stared intently at him, watching him sleep... so peaceful and serene. Suddenly, there was that smile again. Suddenly I find myself smiling. Honestly, I really don't know what am I smiling at? But it felt so good.

I knew from that moment, my love for him has deepened another degree. Suddenly all the frustrations hours ago while we were trying to get him to sleep as he yelled away was gone. There he was, our pride and joy.

Try it. Look at your baby intently while they are sleeping. You will discover how lucky you are to have them.

And then...he stirred.......oh oh....it's that time again for his next feed........well...that's another story......
