Reclaiming Our Master Bed - The Final Trilogy

Ryan has been sleeping in his own baby cot for the last five nights now. We have just changed to a harder mattress since he likes to sleep on his tummy. He is back to his 180 degree turning acrobat throughout the night. He would start the night in one direction and wakes up the next morning facing the opposite direction!

There was also another reason why we wanted Ryan to sleep on his own bed. With him moving and turning everywhere, there is a real danger that we might just crushed him if we were not careful.

There was this story from a friend of ours that he literally kicked his young daughter out from the bed one night! Horror! Horror! We have a good laugh then though, thinking how on earth could that happen. We wouldn't do that! It will not happen to us!

And guess what? We have a different story to tell (rather I have a different story to tell. My wife will probably skin me alive after this..sigh).

One night (just before we decided to move Ryan back to his own bed and for obvious reasons now), my wife was fast asleep after tucking in Ryan by her side, as usual in the space between us. She was tired after a stressful day at the office and another stressful evening because Ryan would only want her to tuck him to sleep. I was touching and clearing some of my outstanding jobs when I realised about midnight that she has not drink her bird nest soup that our maid had prepared and brought to the room. I walked over to her and gently (I really mean `gently') touched her arm to try to wake her up.

At that instant, she reacted and turned the other side (with her eyes closed and a grunt as well). I was shocked. Her hand landed right on top of Ryans' head. In another words, Ryan got his first slap from mommy! Ryan jerked and woke up with his eyes wide opened. His expression was like "What happened? What happened?" I am not sure whether I was shocked more than amused or the other way. It is a good thing that he did not cry. A few pats on his back and he went back to sleep. He must be real tired.

Coincidentally, now that we look back, Ryan seemed to crawl more towards my side with his head under my armpit more after that incident. And I am under stress fearing that I would end up `slapping' him as well.

The incident speeds up our decision to move Ryan back to his bed and we are glad that we did. Now I guess someone else would probably be laughing at our story and wondering how could that have happened. Emmmm..I am just waiting for their story to unfold and see who would have the last laugh. Well, on the brighter note, we have our version of the story to add.

Hao most of the time is sleeping in his own cot. However if he wakes up in the middle of the night crying for milk, I will take him next to me on my bed so that I can nurse him lying down. Most of the time, both of us will just fall asleep like that. And so far, Hao still ok in a way that he did not move much during his sleep not to mention turn around. He will just turn to left or right side. Even so, I cannot sleep well with him besides me, worrying that he may roll under my body or I accidentally roll over to his body. Luckily this does not happen every night. *touch wood* :p

hahaha..I had a good laugh with your wife's incident.

But I got to tell you even only me and wawa sleep on the master bed at my mom's. it still can be danger. You know why? As you knw wawa also turn like a helicopter when he sleep. There are few time that he turn and turn and turn that he is at the bottom of the bed and is at the edge of falling! I guess it's mother's instinct, each time it happened, I will woke up suddenly and saw that. So I quicky grab him. See? Danger! So now I will just place many pillow at his leg so he wont able to turn that far. But still a cot is better.

Yupe. When Ryan was sleeping on his own previously on the bed, he will be totally surrounded by pillows to prevent him from falling. And the baby monitor will definitely be on. The slightest sound will two of us running up the upstairs to check on him...

i had problems Philip sleeping in his own cot. cos the cot is not big enough for his turns thru out the night. i would hear the wood sound..like he banged the side of the cot...

then i got a mattress and placed it before my mattress...however, i sleep in his mattress now, and he sleeps on the king size.

I have the same incident as well but it's not me slapping my son, it's my hubby. My goodness...maybe it's really hurt, he woke from his sleep and cried. I have to carry him to sleep.

You make the right decision to place him back to cot. I have the same problem like little lamb, the cot is not big enough for Daniel. So he still sleeps with us, but more to my side :) Scare of his daddy lor...

i had to giggle a bit. sorry! haha!

my hubs is always veri afraid when our lil missy sleeps in between us. he is very worried he mite "crush" her. adoi. now she sleeps in her own bb cot, which is a relieve to us. sometimes we let her sleep in between us. easier to check on her lo.

Good that you managed to move him out now. I firmly believe in "once in, never out" which is what happened with us and Bryan! His dad has hit him countless times and he has also fallen off the bed 4 times. Terrible parents, I know. I don't think I'll be able to move him on his own till he's much older. Sigh....what to do, my own fault.

Definitely agree to let kids sleep on their own bed. Squeezing like sardine in a same bed is really uncomfortable. Now we’ve going to put a single mattress on floor for Chloe so that the existing crib can be used by 2nd baby next year.

Haha. Where to sleep the baby seemed to be an interesting topic ya. Anyway, I was advised long before ryan arrived by a good friend to get ryan to sleep on his own from day one. We tried that. Unfortunately, he got sick and we have to attend to him during the night. In a way, we are lucky that Ryan does not fuss much when it comes to where he sleeps. Phew....And true, the cot is getting a little cramp for him with him turning 360 degree during the night. We will see how to overcome that later. Didn't fancy having another mattress in the room as it will make the bedroom so congested. Moreover, my little zoewe sleeps under our bed. Will probaby see how and when to move Ryan back to his own room. Now that I got my bed back, I intend to get my master bedroom back..hehe..evil daddy huh?
